Very local and found only in coastal grassland in S England from Purbeck in Dorset to E Devon. Upperwings typically khaki brown, forewing with crescent of pale spots like paw-print; markings on female brighter than those on male. Flies June-July. Active, buzzing flight. Caterpillar feeds on grasses. |
