Willow Warbler
Phylloscopus trochilus
Length 11cm
Widespread and common summer visitor throughout Britain and Ireland, present from April to September. Adult has olive-yellow upperparts and pale, yellowish white underparts; juvenile has brighter, more yellow plumage. Flesh-coloured legs distinguish silent birds from similar chiffchaff. Song comprises a tinkling, descending phrase, endlessly repeated by newly-arrived birds. Favours birch woodland but can be found in almost any wooded or partly-wooded habitat.
