Locally common summer visitor to open wooded areas in much of Britain but absent from Ireland. Very similar to meadow pipit but plumage has warm-buff tone, most noticeably on throat and breast. Best identified by song: an accelerating trill ending with thin, drawn out notes uttered as bird 'parachutes' down from tree.
