Almost always found within sight of sea. Widespread around coasts of Britain and Ireland but generally a winter visitor to those of E and SE England. Larger and darker than other pipits and has greyish, not white, outer tail feathers. Utters single
pseest call and meadow pipit-like song delivered in flight from outcrop on cliff. Breeds on rocky coasts but in winter also feeds along beach tidelines.
