Raven Raven
Corvus corax
Length 64cm

Appreciably larger than carrion crow, with massive bill and shaggy, ruffled throat; plumage has an oily sheen in good light. Often seen in flight; distant bird bears a passing resemblance to buzzard but recognised by long, thick neck and wedge-shaped tail. Incredibly aerobatic, tumbling and rolling in mid-air. Utters loud, deep cronk call. A bird mainly of remote, untamed parts of N and W Britain and Ireland, common on rocky coasts.
