Mistle Thrush

Distinctly larger than song thrush and with white, not orange-buff, underwings. Upperparts grey-brown with suggestion of white wingbar. Pale underparts with large, dark spots; in flight, white tips to outer tail feather noticeable. Juvenile has white, teardrop-shaped spots on back. Widespread and fairly common in Britain and Ireland but never numerous. In winter, individual birds often guard their own berry-bearing bush or tree. Has loud, rattling alarm call. Loud song contains brief phrases and long pauses; often sung in rain or dull weather.
