Marsh Warbler Marsh Warbler
Acrocephalus palustris
Length 12-13cm

A scarce passage migrant, mostly in spring, and rare breeding species, mainly in counties bordering Severn valley. Very similar to reed warbler and best told by choice of habitat, namely rank waterside vegetation such as stinging nettles, and by song. An amazing mimic whose repertoire includes both other European songsters and species from African wintering grounds. Sometimes sings in the open when paler throat, yellowish buff underparts and pinkish legs can be seen.
