Jackdaw
Corvus monedula
Length 33cm
The most familiar small crow. Widespread and common in much of Britain and Ireland, least so in NW Scotland. Equally at home on farmland or sea cliffs and often encountered in large flocks; aerobatic in flight, frequently uttering sharp
chack calls. Has mainly smoky-grey plumage; at close range, pale eye and grey nape are obvious. Walks with characteristic swagger. Nests in tree holes and rock crevices, but also in buildings. Omnivorous, opportunistic diet.
