Despite name and bird's blue-grey upperparts, the lemon-yellow underparts are the species' most striking feature. Male has black throat, absent in female and winter male. Invariably associated with water, mostly fast-flowing streams and rivers. Perches on boulders, pumping tail up and down. Utters
chsee-tsit call in flight. Widespread in Britain and Ireland but absent from much of E England.
