Garden Warbler Garden Warbler
Sylvia borin
Length 14cm

A rather nondescript warbler to look at with uniform grey-brown upperparts and paler, buffish underparts. At times, can resemble a blackcap without the cap colour; has also been likened to a robin without the red breast. Lack of distinguishing plumage features is more than made up for by song which is one of the most attractive of all British birds; can be confused with blackcap's song but is even more musical. A summer visitor to Britain from May to August. Common only in S and C England and Wales; scarce and local in S Scotland and Ireland. Favours wooded areas with dense undergrowth and mature gardens.
