Anser fabilis
Length 65-85cm

Superficially similar to pink-footed goose but much bulkier and with orange, not pink, band on more robust bill. Head and neck chocolate brown grading to paler brown on breast and belly. Stern white and back and wings dark brown; legs bright orange. Occasionally shows narrow white border at base of bill. A scarce winter visitor to Britain and Ireland from Arctic breeding grounds in Siberia and Scandinavia; present from October to March. Seen in small- to medium-sized flocks, usually grazing on areas of grassland or stubble fields. In flight, looks darker-winged than other grey geese and utters nasal cackling call. Occurs locally in C and SW Scotland; a small but regular flock of birds can be seen at Buckenham in Norfolk. Scarce but regular visitor to N and S Ireland.
