Electronic System

Artificial system in which electricity performs some useful function. The term usually, though not always, refers to a system in which the electric current is used to convey and process data, rather than transmit power. Electronic systems usually use relatively low currents. As with any electrical system, the electricity travels in a circuit. The input into an electronic system is usually through switches or sensors.

A processing unit can be as simple as a combination of transistors, capacitors, or resistors, or it can be more complicated, using integrated circuits. Examples of processing units include timer circuits, operational amplifiers, and logic circuits. Outputs from electronic systems are commonly mechanical, audio, or visual.
