Press studs may be sewn on to fabric, but some can be attached without sewing. Such studs have two parts for each section, which are placed on either side of the fabric. When firm pressure is exerted, prongs on one part of the stud go through the fabric and lock into a ridge on the other part. The press stud section is thus held firmly in place.
