Real Image

Picture or appearance of a real object, formed by light that passes through a lens or is reflected by a mirror, that can be projected onto a screen. An image formed by a concave mirror is an example of a real image.

The reflected light from an object placed in front of a concave mirror will form a real image. The reflected light rays join together at a point called the image position, where the rays converge and intersect. A background screen is positioned beyond the image position to display the reflected light rays. The image formed on the screen is a real image and it is upside down (inverted).
