Indication of the amount of electrical power at which electrical equipment can be safely used. Electrical power is defined as the rate of converting electrical energy into other forms of energy, and is measured in watts (joules per second). For example, a 100-watt light bulb converts electrical energy into heat and light at a rate of 100 joules per second. Power ratings of electrical equipment are safety guidelines indicating the wattage range over which the equipment can be operated (excess power being dangerous and causing damage to the equipment).
