The two main forms of Buddhism are Theravada (or Hinayana) in Southeast Asia, Sri Lanka, and India; and Mahayana in North and East Asia. Mahayana Buddhism has a number of branches, including Tibetan Buddhism, or Lamaism, Zen Buddhism in Japan, and Pure Land Buddhism, the dominant form in China and Japan; there are over a hundred schools of Buddhism in Japan. The schools differ in various ways, from their practise of worship to their celebration of Buddhist festivals.
