There are two main types: conjunctions and adverbs that link one clause to another. Examples of conjunctions are and, or, but, as in I speak German but I don't speak Spanish. Adverbs linking clauses are also known as conjuncts; examples are however, to summarize, meanwhile, in addition, as in The government faced problems from the trade unions. In addition, the party organization itself was in disarray.
