Rumba

Afro-Cuban traditional secular dance and music genre, rendered by vocals with percussion, providing complex syncopated rhythms. It has a characteristic quick-quick-slow dance movement and a repetitive melody accompanied by an ostinato (persistently repeating) one-bar pattern played on the maracas. The dance emphasizes the hip and shoulder movements rather than the feet and is a model for the mambo, cha cha cha, and other Latin American ballroom dances.
