Lineker, Gary Winston

English footballer and television presenter. He scored over 250 goals in 550 games for Leicester, Everton, Barcelona, and Tottenham. With 48 goals in 80 internationals he failed by one goal to equal Bobby Charlton's record of 49 goals for England. Lineker was elected Footballer of the Year in 1986 and 1992, and was leading scorer at the 1986 World Cup finals. In 1993 he moved to Japan to play for Nagoya Grampus Eight but retired a year later. Turning to television, he appeared as a contestant on several series of the game show They Think It's All Over, and as a presenter on the football highlights programme Match of the Day, for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
