In a river, a deep steep-sided meander (bend) formed by the severe downwards erosion of an existing meander. Such erosion is usually brought about by the rejuvenation of a river (for example, in response to a fall in sea level).

There are several incised meanders along the middle course of the River Wye, near Chepstow, Gwent.

The yellow of the emblem is said to denote Angola's natural wealth. Red is said to stand for the blood spilt by the freedom fighters. Black represents Africa. Effective date: 11 November 1975. >>
