Maguire Seven
Seven Irish victims of a miscarriage of justice. In 1976 Annie Maguire, five members of her family, and a family friend were imprisoned in London for possessing explosives. All seven of the convictions were overturned in June 1991.
In the wake of the release of the Guildford Four in October 1989 and calls for a review of the sentencing of the Birmingham Six, a report by former appeals judge John May persuaded home secretary David Waddington that there had been a miscarriage of justice in the Maguire case. In July 1990 he referred it back to the Court of Appeal for quashing.
