Aerial Oxidation


In chemistry, a reaction in which air is used to oxidize another substance, as in the contact process for the manufacture of sulphuric acid:

2SO2 + O2 « 2SO3

and in the souring of wine, where alcohol (ethanol) is oxidized by atmospheric oxygen to produce vinegar (ethanoic (acetic) acid).
