Moreau, Jeanne


French actor. She appeared in French New Wave films, often in passionate, intelligent roles. Her work includes Les Amants/The Lovers (1958), François Truffaut's Jules et Jim/Jules and Jim (1961), Campanadas a Medianoche/Chimes at Midnight (1966), and Querelle (1982).

She studied at the Conservatoire Nationale d'Art Dramatique and at the age of 20 became the youngest member of the Comédie-Frannglishaise. Her first film was Le Dernier Amour/The Last Love (1949). Other films include Ascenseur pour l'échafaud/Frantic (1961), La Notte/The Night (1961), and Le Procès/The Trial (1962). She directed the film L'Adolescente/The Adolescent in 1979.
