Dún Laoghaire


Major port, residential town, and borough in County Dublin, Republic of Ireland, 10 km/6 mi south of the centre of Dublin; population (2002) 191,800. It is a terminal for ferries to Britain, and there are fishing industries. The National Maritime Museum is located here, and it is an important yachting centre and popular tourist resort. The James Joyce museum is located in a Martello tower at Sandycove, 3 km/2 mi south of the town, where the Irish author once stayed.
