Religious movement founded during the 1840s by Mirza Ali Muhammad (‘the Bab’). An offshoot of Islam, it differs mainly in the belief that Muhammad was not the last of the prophets. The movement split into two groups after the death of the Bab; Baha'u'llah, the leader of one of these groups, founded the Baha'i faith.
