Scottish footballer and football manager. A prolific goal scorer for Glasgow Celtic and then Liverpool, he was the first player to score 100 goals in both the English and Scottish first divisions. He won nine trophies as a player with Celtic and twelve with Liverpool including three European Cups. Overall, Dalglish made a record 102 international appearances for Scotland and equalled Denis Law's record of 30 goals. As a manager he won the league championship with Liverpool in 1986, 1988, and 1990, and with Blackburn Rovers in 1995.

He played for Celtic 1967–77, and won four Scottish League Championships, four Scottish Cups, and one Scottish League Cup. He moved to Liverpool and won 12 major medals in the next eight years; five League Championships, four League Cups, and three European Cups. He was player-manager of Liverpool when they won the Cup and League double in 1985–86; as manager he added two more League titles in 1987–88 and 1989–90, and another FA Cup win in 1989. He became manager of Blackburn Rovers in 1991, taking them into the Premiership and on to the Championship in 1994–95. He is one of only three managers to win the English Championship with two clubs. He replaced Kevin Keegan as manager of Newcastle United in January 1997 but was sacked in August 1998. In June 1999 he was appointed Celtic's technical director. In February 2000 he took on the additional temporary role of first team coach at Celtic following the dismissal of John Barnes. In this role he led Celtic to the 2000 Scottish League Cup, defeating Aberdeen 2–0 in the final on 19 March. He was sacked as Celtic's director, a month after the club appointed Martin O'Neill as the new manager. He was awarded an MBE for his services to football in 1984.
