Wordsworth, Dorothy

English writer. She was the only sister of William Wordsworth and lived with him (and later his wife) as a companion and support from 1795 until his death. Her journals (of which only a small section remains) describe their life in Alfoxden, Somerset, and at Grasmere in the Lake District, and their travels (which provided inspiration and material for his poetry). Her writing displays great powers of description and a keen appreciation of natural beauty.
