Burial place of ancient kings opposite Thebes, Egypt, on the left bank of the Nile. It was established as a royal cemetery during the reign of Thotmes I (c. 1500 BC) and abandoned during the reign of Ramses XI (c. 1100 BC).

A vast underground tomb believed to be the burial site of 50 of the sons of Ramses II was discovered by archaeologists May 1995; it was the largest yet found in the Valley of the Kings.

Blue recalls the sea and the sky. Green symbolizes the earth. The red star represents unity. White stands for peace. Effective date: 27 June 1977. >>
