Member of the southern Slav people of Slovenia and parts of the Alpine provinces of Styria and Carinthia in Austria, and Gorizia and Carniola in Italy. Formerly under Habsburg rule, they united with the Serbs and Croats to form the state of Yugoslavia after World War II. There are 1.5–2 million speakers of Slovene, a language belonging to the South Slavonic branch of the Indo-European family. The Slovenes use the Roman alphabet and the majority belong to the Roman Catholic Church.

The red, white, and black tricolour formed the basis of the flags of both North and South Yemen. Effective date: 22 May 1990. >>
