Unidentified seafaring warriors who may have been Achaeans, Etruscans, or Philistines, who ravaged and settled the Mediterranean coasts in the 12th13th centuries BC. They were defeated by Ramses III of Egypt 1191 BC.
The stars stand for the two islands. Red recalls the struggle for independence. Yellow is said to represent the country's cocoa plantations. Effective date: 12 July 1975.
