Fleshy
fruit containing one or more seeds which are surrounded by a hard, protective layer for example cherry, almond, and plum. The wall of the fruit (
pericarp) is differentiated into the outer skin (exocarp), the fleshy layer of tissues (mesocarp), and the hard layer surrounding the seed (endocarp).
The coconut is a drupe, but here the pericarp becomes dry and fibrous at maturity. Blackberries are an aggregate fruit composed of a cluster of small drupes.
