Allies, The


In World War I, the 27 Allied and Associated powers aligned against the Central Powers (Germany, Austro-Hungary, Turkey, and Bulgaria) and represented at the Treaty of Versailles (1919); they included France, Italy, Russia, the UK, Australia and other Commonwealth nations, and, in the latter part of the war, the USA. In World War II they were some 49 countries allied against the Axis Powers (Germany, Italy, and Japan), including France, the UK, Australia and other Commonwealth nations, the USA, and the former Soviet Union.
