Kurzweil, Raymond C
US computer scientist and entrepreneur. He developed a print-to-speech reading machine for the blind in 1976 and a computer music keyboard in 1984. A pioneer in automated speech-recognition, he founded Kurzweil Applied Intelligence in 1982, which introduced the Kurzweil Voicesystem in 1985; technology to transfer speech directly to a computer. His VoiceMED technology for voice-controlled patient reporting, introduced in 1986, has been widely used by physicians and hospitals. Kurzweil was born in New York City.
