Dictionary of Computers - Kernighan, Brian W
Kernighan, Brian W
US computer scientist born in Canada. He was instrumental in the development of Unix in the early 1970s, actually giving the operating system its name. He also worked on document preparation software, programming languages (most notably AWK), and software tools.
He was born in Toronto, emigrated to the USA in the mid-1960s, and joined Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey, in 1969.
