Sprint
US telecommunications company supplying data and long-distance voice connections. It was founded in 1899 as the Brown Telephone Company. In 2004 Sprint Corporation acquired Nextel Communications and formed Sprint Nextel, making it one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world.
Sprint began offering long distance service under the Sprint brand name in 1986. The company was the first to connect coast-to-coast fibreoptic transmissions and in 2007 claimed to have two wireless networks with 54 million customers.
