electronic conferencing
Public discussions conducted on an online service; any participant may log in at any time and read the collected messages and add new ones.
Because of its time-independent, many-to-many nature, electronic conferencing can be used to provide some of the same functions as real-life meetings, classrooms, and unstructured socializing without requiring the participants to meet face-to-face. While electronic conferencing is no substitute for live interaction, it does allow people who are widely geographically separated or who might otherwise never meet to exchange ideas.
