In the 1990s, handwriting recognition was widely adopted for use on handheld computers, especially the palmtop models which do not have a physical keyboard. In many cases users had to adopt a special script that the system would recognize. More advanced systems are now commonplace and able to recognise cursive (joined-up) handwriting without any special training required.
The red disc, set towards the hoist, recalls the fight for independence. Green represents Islam, fertility, and the country's youth. Effective date: 25 January 1972.
