Kahle, Brewster
US computing entrepreneur who is best known for inventing the software tool WAIS system for publishing material on the Internet. Early in his career, Kahle founded Thinking Machines Corporation, a company that designed supercomputers. He sold his second company, WAIS Inc, to America Online in 1995. In 1996 he continued to coordinate WAIS, and set up an Internet archive which aims to keep a copy of every item on the Net.
