passive matrix display
Liquid crystal display (LCD) produced by passing a current between an array of electrodes set between glass plates. Passive matrix screens lack the transistors that enhance the performance of active matrix LCDs, which makes them relatively inexpensive, but lacking in contrast and slow to react.
