packet radio
Use of amateur (ham) radio, instead of telephones, to communicate between computers. A terminal node controller (TNC) replaces the modem, a radio transceiver takes the place of the telephone, and the phone system is replaced by radio waves. Packet radio, which works on several different frequencies, has a complete network of its own, complete with satellite links and terrestrial relays. It cannot be used to access the Internet, but it can be connected through the Internet.

Blue stands for faith and loyalty, the sea, lakes, and the sky. Black represents past suffering and is the colour of the traditional peasant's jacket. White symbolizes virtue and enlightenment and is the colour of snow, birch bark, and the midnight sun. Effective date: 16 November 1990.
