nonlinear video editing
Video editing method that processes compressed video data stored on a hard disk. This makes it much easier for editors to find their way around the material, and enables them to commence editing at any point in the tape – hence the name.
Editors use a computer to rearrange the material and produce an Edit Decision List (EDL) bearing all information on cuts, fades, and other effects. The EDL can then be used to create an automated final edit using the original tapes. The main video editing programs are Avid Media Composer, Gee's Lightworks, and Adobe Premiere.
