Good ergonomic design makes computer systems easier to use and minimizes the health hazards and physical stresses of working with computers for many hours a day: it helps data entry workers to avoid conditions like repetitive strain injury (RSI), eyestrain, and back and muscle aches.
In Europe, many measures intended to protect workers were introduced in the 1992 Ergonomics Directive, which in Britain is enforced by the Health and Safety Executive.
