Tiscali, the broadband and internet company, today announces the launch of a new portal specifically dedicated to the 2006 World Cup. The portal, sponsored by Thomas Cook, provides free up to date team news, stadium low downs, the Tiscali World Cup Challenge game and a massive video library of the best World Cup goals of all time! The site highlights include:
Tiscali World Cup Challenge - fantasy football: Tiscali today launches the Tiscali World Cup Challenge football competition, with a £58,000 prize pool, to coincide with the forthcoming tournament. Managers can win anything between £5 and £1000 per round and £250 to £25,000 across the tournament. Private leagues can also be set up with prizes of £25 to £100 to be won.
The game, hosted at http://tiscaliworldcup.fanball.co.uk/ and developed in conjunction with Fanball UK Ltd, enables managers to set formations, pick their players and organise free transfers until an hour before the tournament's first game kicks-off. On kick-off starts the standard package enables managers to make up to five free transfers so picking Rooney might not be such a gamble after all! Daily emails will keep managers up-to-date with all things relating to the Tiscali World Cup Challenge.
The standard entry bundle for £5.95 gives managers five free transfers in addition to entry to the game while the all-in bundle of £20.95 gives unlimited transfers.
Top 50 World Cup Wonder Goals: Tiscali wants to know the nation's favourite ever World Cup goals. Visitors to the site can sit back and relive the 50 greatest World Cup moments dating back to 1958. You can rate the goals out of ten and attempt to push your favourite to the top of the list, whether it be Michael Owen dancing around the Argentinean defence to score in France '98 or Brazil's 1970 'golden team' tearing their Italian opponents apart in Mexico. Early leaders are Scotland's Archie Gemill ('78), Argentina's Maradona ('86) and Brazil's Carlos Alberto ('70). Tiscali will announce the most popular World Cup goal of all time after the world cup in Germany.
Competition Time: The site is also packed with a whole host of other competitions giving visitors the opportunity to win all they need to enjoy the perfect World Cup in 2006. An HDTV can be won, to watch the tournament in style or you have the opportunity to win a World Cup Survival Pack which includes a healthy stock of beer which will help with the celebrations.
The World Cup site will be running throughout the tournament with the winner of the Tiscali World Cup Challenge and Wonder Goals Poll to be announced after Beckham lifts the trophy.
