Tiscali Press Release - PACKED TISCALI SHOWCASE NIGHT CELEBRATES 1ST ANNIVERSARY IN STYLE

PACKED TISCALI SHOWCASE NIGHT CELEBRATES 1ST ANNIVERSARY IN STYLE
26th Sept 2005

A YEAR OF HOT NEW MUSIC CELEBRATED WITH OFF-THE-CUFF AWARDS

On Friday 23 September 2005, Tiscali UK, one of the UK's leading broadband ISPs, celebrated one year of their super successful Tiscali Showcase nights by doing what they do best; ramming the Islington Bar Academy to bursting point and peddling the wares of three of the UK's hottest new band. Brakes blew the place apart, Four Day Hombre were on fire and newcomers Eye exploded in a triumph of indie rock anthemdom. They are stars in the making.

To honour the bands that have graced the Tiscali stage over the last 12 months, Tiscali staged a last minute, tongue-firmly-in-cheek award ceremony at the end of Brakes set. The winners received a Tiscali-sashed Barbie doll and a bottle of champagne and the categories and winners were as follows:

1. The Rachel Stevens Award for Best Cover Performance for their version of Sweet Dreams My LA Ex: CINIMO
2. The Best Attempt At A Special Effect Award for creative use of a home projector: SWEET CHAP
3. Hair & Style Award for Happiest Band: FLEEING NEW YORK
4. Best & Funniest Interview Award AKA the 'how long do you have to be away to constitute a comeback' award: LOWGOLD
5. The Cleverest Marketing Ploy Award - Name Category for immediately appealing to 31,229 girls in the UK called Kate: FANS OF KATE
6. The Mick Jagger Award for Performance: SHAKES
7. The We Just Can't Get Rid of You Award, pipping Cinimo, Dirty Feel and The Shakes by a Reading Festival Session: THE ALPS

The Tiscali Showcase night has proved to be the night with great longevity - going strong for a full year. Post gig entertainment was provided by the DJ Giaco Quest, who kept the crowds dancing until 2am with his eclectic set of indie - dance floor fillers. The night was so successful that by 9.30pm the venue were having to adopt a one in one out policy as capacity had been reached.

The next Tiscali Showcase night will take place on the 21 October at the Islington Bar Academy and will feature talent from the new breed of singer-songwriters, featuring Patrick Duff, Rick Oliver and Doug Walker.
