EMR to be first feature film to 'Multi-Platform Release' in theatre, online and dvd retail
Tiscali UK, the leading internet and broadband company and Dogwoof Picture's digital arm, Dogwoof Digital announce today the first simultaneous theatre and online premier of the award-winning thriller EMR on 12 July, followed by its multi-platform release in five cities, online at www.tiscali.co.uk/EMR and dvd on 15 July.
Film fans unable to get tickets for the premier at London's beautiful Genesis Cinema, will be able to join in the premier online by downloading the film over broadband for £2.50. EMR, winner of the Raindance Festival 'Best Film' award, will get its cinema release in London, Glasgow, Bristol, and Manchester on the Friday and will be available to buy exclusively from SilverScreen stores and online at Play.com.
It is expected the partnership between Tiscali and independent film distributor Dogwoof Pictures will bring more of Dogwoof's intelligent independent and foreign films to Tiscali's 600,000 broadband customers in the UK as well as broadband users generally who sign up to the Tiscali Cinema Club.
Richard Ayers, Portal Director and Editor of www.tiscali.co.uk says: "We have an intelligent audience and there is a huge demand for films that are difficult to get hold of or not available at all through you local video store. Dogwoof is ahead of the curve in understanding the potential of broadband to extend the distribution of its properties."
Andy Whittaker of Dogwoof says: "Tiscali is one of the most innovative companies in this area. It has supported emerging talent in the film industry through its short film programme and it has an established distribution platform, with integrated DRM.
"We see the Internet as a new film distribution channel with a lot of potential and endless possibilities. Dogwoof Digital will acquire quality films only and will work with Tiscali to give them the best possible "online release". We are now working on the creation of marketing & PR tools that will ensure each film's success."
Both companies believe that this unique platform allows a golden opportunity to release films that would not be available to a mass audience in the UK. Whittaker continues: "Broadband offers a fantastic opportunity to drive additional revenue and reach an audience that is hungry for different genres such as foreign films, martial arts, Film Noir, and classic back catalogue."
Tiscali has been very active in its support for films and entertainment generally. Tiscali UK hosts a monthly showcase for top class emerging music and you can view up to a dozen new short films a month free at tiscali.co.uk. As well as being a major sponsor of this year's Raindance Film Festival - and launching an award for 'Best UK Short Under Ten Minutes from a First Time Film Maker' - Tiscali also made had a presence at the Cannes Film Festival supporting the British Independent Film Awards reception.
Tiscali first experimented with download premiers at the Rotterdam Film Festivals by premiering the controversial film 05/06. Directed by Theo van Gogh, the film about the murder of the right wing Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn debuted online and within hours, thousands of customers had paid 5 Euro and downloaded the movie to watch.
The news of the first multi-platform UK premier could not have come a moment too soon. With ongoing debate on digital distribution being a viable source of income, Tiscali is dedicated to proving that online distribution of films will prove to be a safe, successful, and profitable, revenue stream.
