Tiscali Press Release - TISCALI PRESENTS "MAY 6th"

TISCALI PRESENTS "MAY 6TH"
16th December 2004

For The First Time In Europe A Film Is Premiered Online Reversing The Rules Of Traditional Movies Distribution

Tiscali, the Internet Communication Company who has been always in the front line to experiment new ways for using the Internet, premieres the celebrated film May 6th on the Internet today.

'May 6th' is the first film ever to be premiered via the internet in Europe, before hitting cinema, TV and DVD distribution. This first European film premiere underlines the prominent role Internet and ISPs will play in the lifecycle of films, showing once again that Internet is a versatile medium for distributing high-grade content.

In the film the renowned Dutch director Theo van Gogh reconstructs the puzzling events that took place following the assassination of Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn on May 6th, 2002. Theo van Gogh was himself brutally murdered on November 2nd of this year. The film is Van Gogh's final testament to his unique artistic abilities as a filmmaker. The film can be bought online until Saturday December 18th by connecting to www.tiscali.nl and www.0605defilm.nl.

Moreover the website www.may6th.com presents a wide range of contents and information in English including Theo Van Gogh's Video Diaries, the Photo gallery of the backstage of the movie and the biographies and imaged of the cast and the crew of the film.

May 6th will be released in cinemas across the Netherlands and Belgium in January 2005.

With this important event Tiscali is showing that there are many different and interesting areas for online content. Not only the great sport events or the major blockbusters can capture the attention of the audience. There are a wide range of local contents and productions, like "May 6th", which can use Internet as an extraordinary distribution channel.

Earlier this year, Tiscali acquired the exclusive rights to the film. The idea was simple: in order to support the promotion of its Video on Demand platform, Tiscali entered into close cooperation with Van Gogh's production company Column Film. Theo van Gogh was given complete freedom to create a film that would appeal to a broader audience and Tiscali used its expertise in the field of internet to develop a distribution channel for the film.
