UK soldiers killed in Afghan blast

Another British soldier has been killed in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has said.

The serviceman from 4th Battalion, The Rifles, died in a blast near Sangin, in central Helmand Province. His family have been informed.

Lieutenant Colonel David Wakefield, spokesman for Task Force Helmand, said: "It is my sad duty to inform you that earlier today, the morning of Remembrance Sunday, a soldier from 3 Rifles Battle Group was killed as a result of an explosion near Sangin, in Helmand Province."

He continued: "One of our fellow soldiers, one of us, who we remembered this morning and who will not be forgotten."

He is the 201st member of British military personnel to be killed in action since the operation began in 2001. The total death toll for UK troops is 232.

News of the latest death came after a soldier from the 2nd Battalion, The Rifles, was killed in an explosion in the same area on Saturday.

Lieutenant Colonel David Wakefield, said: "He died a soldier, doing his duty and among his fellow soldiers. He will not be forgotten."

Eight British soldiers have died in the country this month alone.
