A 39-year-old woman was found dead on a railway line just three days after her father was killed on the same stretch of track, it has emerged.

British Transport Police said the deaths of Colleen O'Connor and 64-year-old Barney O'Connor, which both happened last week in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, were not being treated as suspicious.

The apparent suicides happened near Husum Way, on the eastern outskirts of Kidderminster, on Thursday and Sunday.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman confirmed those killed were father and daughter.

Mr O'Connor, from Halesowen, West Midlands, died after being struck by a train at about 6.30pm on Thursday. Miss O'Connor, from Poole, Dorset, was found dead at the same location at about 8.30pm last Sunday.

The BTP spokesman said: "Neither death is being treated as suspicious and inquests have been opened and adjourned at Redditch Coroners' Court.

"The thoughts of British Transport Police are with the family at this very difficult time."

In a statement issued by BTP, family members said both Mr and Miss O'Connor would be sadly missed.

The statement read: "We have been devastated by this double tragedy and the family is rallying round to support each other.
