ATHENS (Reuters) - Panathinaikos midfielder Sotiris Ninis has been included in Greece’s squad for the friendly against Slovakia in Bratislava on Saturday.
The 18-year-old, who made a scoring debut for Greece before being left out of the Euro 2008 squad, takes the place of Stelios Giannakopoulos who is still without a team after being released by Bolton at the end of last season.
Also missing from the Euro squad are goalkeeper Antonis Nikopolidis and centre-back Paraskevas Antzas who both announced their retirement during the tournament.
Greece, as defending champions, failed to win a single point and scored only a solitary goal at Euro 2008.
Coach Otto Rehhagel has only named two goalkeepers while new Genoa signing Sotiris Papastathopoulos comes in at centre-back.
Greece will open their World Cup qualifying campaign against Luxembourg on September6.
