LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - Surrounded by thousands of screaming fans, Mariah Carey performed five songs during a brief concert at a Hollywood shopping mall on Thursday.
Portions of the gig at the Hollywood & Highland Center, which featured a guest appearance by rapper Young Jeezy on "Side Effects," were broadcast Thursday on ABC’s "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Other songs performed by the pop diva included a medley of "I’ll Be Lovin’ U Long Time"/"Touch My Body," "I’m That Chick," "Shake It Off" and "We Belong Together."
Most of the tunes were drawn from Carey’s newest album, "E=MC2," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in April, and has sold 1.1 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The performance launched the second year of a free summer concert series designed to promote a Samsung cell phone. Other acts scheduled to perform at venues around the country include Gavin Rossdale, LeAnn Rimes, Nelly, Nas, the Smashing Pumpkins and Good Charlotte.
